NDApHC Board of Directors Meeting
February 4, 2006 – 4:30 PM
Comfort Inn – Bismarck, ND
Present: Mark Smith, Bill Cook, Crystal Gandrud, Rhonda Klocke, Connie Benjaminson,
Holly Johnson, Jeanette Cook
The President called the meeting to order. Minutes from the previous board meeting of February 12, 2005 were approved as read. TreasurerÕs report: The state fair show lost $315.51 but Jeanette reported that several additional awards were purchased for the fair because Finks indicated they were planning to come. Since they did not show at the fair, the club has prizes for this yearÕs show left over. The only thing that makes money is the White Elephant Auction. The balance shows $3879.67. The treasurerÕs report was approved as read – moved by Mark Smith and seconded by Rhonda Klocke.
Old Business.
The state fair show: If we want to pay for a third judge, it will be completely up to us – the Paint club will not be paying for a judge at the fair. The state fair will pay for 2 judges and the format will be the same as last year (halter & English on Friday, western & games on Saturday). The board will bring up the adding a third judge at the general membership meeting. The picnic will also be brought up. The jackpot classes will be dropped unless there is someone from the membership who would like to run it.
The raffle: The board will ask the membership if they are interested in sponsoring a raffle and/or if donations for prizes would help.
June 3-4 Show in Valley City: The winter show will pay for 2 judges on Saturday. The Paints will pay one judge on Sunday and are asking NDApHC to pay for one judge on Sunday. We get the stall and our entry fee money on Sunday. WeÕll have to pay for the stall cleaning but not the building. There is a show in Wisconsin and one in Nebraska on the same weekend.
The board is going to appoint a committee to develop an award for Appaloosas showing at non-Appaloosa shows. The participants do not have to show at the ND State Fair and the awards are separate from the NDApHC year end awards. Crystal volunteered to serve on the committee and others will be requested during the membership meeting.
Bill moved to adjourn and Mark Smith seconded.

Old Business
The ND State Fair: The addition of a third judge was discussed. It would cost approximately $1100 to add a judge. Concerns were expressed about the additional cost to exhibitors and the club. Members indicated that adding a judge wouldnÕt bring any additional entries. Gail Smith moved that we approve the state fairs shows and not hire an additional judge, seconded by Crystal Gandrud. Motion carried. Since we are not sponsoring a fair show, we cannot have the jackpot classes.
June 3-4 shows in Valley City: The Winter Show will pay for 2 judges on Saturday, the Paint club will pay for one judge on Sunday and would like the NDApHC to pay for another judge on Sunday. Grumpy indicated that we may need to pay for insurance for liability at approximately $250. He added that Valley City is the cheapest place to put a show on but it will still cost money. Grumpy moved that the club host the Sunday show (June 4), Marilyn Weik seconded. Motion carried. Bill Cook asked for volunteers to help and suggested a committee be formed to investigate charges and duties needed. Mark & Gail Smith volunteered to contact the Paint club.
President Benjaminson asked if the club still wanted to do the raffle since we only made $20 last year. Donations were suggested instead of the raffle. An item will be placed in the newsletter asking for donations. There will be no raffle next year.
Picnics: State Fair picnic is one again for 2006, moved by Jeanette Cook and seconded by Rhonda Klocke, motion carried.
Trail ride: Ron Hartman from Grassy Butte has agreed to host our trail ride again this year. He can accommodate the club any weekend in June except the last weekend. The Hartman Ranch has cabins and corrals available. Crystal Grandrud moved the weekend of June 17 at the Hartman Ranch, Rhonda Klocke seconded. Motion carried.
New Business
Grumpy proposed that we consider merging clubs and co-sponsoring the August shows. He asked that the NDApHC look at this issue – RRV would consider dissolving. Connie asked for volunteers to serve on a committee to bring recommendations back to the club for next year. Mark Smith, Bill Cook, and Grumpy agreed to serve.
The bylaw changes: Mark Smith moved, Crystal Gandrud seconded, to increase the dues from $10 to $15 single and $15 to $20 family. Those who have paid their dues already will be grandfathered in this year. Motion carried.
Crystal Gandrud proposed a new year end award program that promoted Appaloosa horses in open shows. There would be a nomination fee for each horse and the exhibitors would not have to show in NDApHC sponsored shows to participate. The rules for the new program will mirror the NEWApHC in Wisconsin. An addendum stating the program rules will be posted on clubÕs website. The item will be added as number 21 in the bylaws.
The changes prepared by the bylaw committee were accepted as stated. Crystal Gandrud moved, Rhonda Klocke seconded. Motion carried.
Crystal Gandrud explained the sponsorship form that is now posted on the clubÕs website.
Marilyn Weik suggested that those members who do not have the ability to print the newsletter notify the secretary. Otherwise, members will be emailed a notification when the newsletter is available so that it can be downloaded from the website.
Election of officers: Connie Benjaminson and Holly JohnsonÕs terms were up and both were re-elected.
Rhonda Klocke moved to adjourn.
